Spiked Super Mechanics of Apathy Sex by Rage Inducer

Currently, DC's Rage Inducer doesn't have a single, cohesive release but does have a slew of singles up on bandcamp. That's why I made up the name you see for the review , but I still think it comes across pretty nifty. I love the hell out of this band, though, so I wanted to tell you about these songs. They also all come paired with b-sides that are largely texture and feel pieces more than anything else. They're cool, but are not for everyone.

The Spiked Boot:
Very Neurosis in feel. It has that same sludgy, laconic, trance-inducing vibe. The samples are a bit more disharmonic, though, and the vocals are significantly more aggressive, calling to mind those super-processed, distorted and warped grind vocals that evoke more feeling than sense. Lyrically, this one is incredibly rough. It deals with loss, regret and the collateral damage of force. There is an issue with the drums being a bit too low in the mix for my taste, which is sad because they come across really well, especially for looped work (it's a general production issue with all of the songs, so I won't keep repeating it). Fucking baddass, man.

Superphalliliciosexpediteatrocious:
While this one is still super drone-y, the overlaying lead work adds a nice texture over the raucous saws. There is also this cool jazzy bit with the bass that breaks up the tension nicely. And was that some mandolin at the end? Hell yeah! Vocals here are more along the line of Thousand Lakes era Amorphis. With no lyrics included, to be honest, I had no clue what was being said. Definitely slaps, as the kids say.

Popular Mechanics of Genocide:
Wow. The vocals stand out really heavily on this one. Much clearer and more aggressive. This has a bit more of a standard song structure. It's definitely easier to get into than the other ones. Even has an almost dancey vibe, making it feel a bit like Skrew. There is definitely more focus on the keyboard and sample work here. Lyrics are pretty much along the line of what you would expect from the title, punk rock as fuck. I'm digging how many different directions these songs go with the electro-doom thing.

Death by Apathy:
This feels like an almost perfect middle ground of Super… and Popular Mechanics… It has the drone and the crystal leadwork over the top but has the more typical verse-chorus structure and the keys come in nice and clear. Then there is this chunkiness to it that adds heft to the whole thing. Points for using those idiotic clche bullshit comments every one of us has seen and heard over and over again to make up the verses and really hammer in the point made by the chorus. The Chill as Fuck remix is pretty awesome, too.

Doom Sex:

Opening with pan flutes is brave as hell, but it works here. The guitars and drums drop in like the hammer of the gods. This one is definitely back to the more Neurosis/Godflesh feel of The Spiked Boot with very blackmetally echoed vocals. Not sure what is being said, but it is another one that seems more about the engendered feeling than an upfront message. and the rhythms eb and flow well enough that this would, indeed, be a good song for some double back beasting.

you can get all the singles for $6.50 or $1/song. Either way, you should go to the bandcamp site buy this stuff.
